It's a.......

Saddle pad for my sidesaddle! I looked online for one and thought to myself "I bet I could make one of those easy enough". So I thought I'd give it a go. I really needed something for under my saddle to keep the linen cleaner. It's just a bit too long for a regular square pad so the very back of the panels were getting really dirty.
Started off with a bit of a template...

Doubled checked to make sure it would cover where it needed to.

Cut out the quilted fabric.

Then came the sewing and Ta da! The finished product.

Now to try it under the saddle. It fits really well! Yay!

I'm pretty pleased with how well that turned out.

  3. I love this idea! I've been using a big square pad under my saddle, but it really overwhelms my little mare. I'm totally stealing your idea :)

  4. Your more than welcome to! I was using a square baby pad under my saddle and the back of the saddle, the bottom of the near side flap and the safe weren't covered so were getting pretty dirty. I haven't tried the saddle pad out yet but I'm hoping it works well! I'll let you know.
(On another note, vacuuming the bottom of your saddle works really well to get the grime out.)

  5. I use baby pads under my astride saddle all the time. But since the sweat flaps are leather it's easy to keep clean!
